We have undoubtedly entered a new golden age for children’s literature; the quality and variety of children’s books being published these days is astounding and very comforting, sealing the future of what is a vital component of any childhood. However, the sheer volume of books published can become a bit of a hurdle for parents looking for a good read for their children, or family and friends looking for a gift for a child in their lives, and recommendations and word of mouth can have a vital role to play in supporting book selection. There are a lot of websites and blogs (including yours truly) which fulfill this role, but one can never have too many tools to support adults with children’s book selection and I was intrigued to discover Kinfo, a free app which is designed, developed and supported by parents only.

At the moment, Kinfo offers three categories to choose from: place, product, other: but they have just started a Book category, which allows parents to share and check out recommendations of books children have enjoyed.

Adding books is easy, choose ‘I want to recommend a product’, type in the title of the book you want to recommend, and the app will automatically come up with the book for you, then all you need is to add your review.  The next app update will offer a specific book category, making it easier for parents to recommend their favourite family reads.

Here is a sneak peek of the reviews I added to Kinfo:

Unlike many apps, this is not a listings app, and you can trust that the books reviewed are those that have been enjoyed by families.
Kinfo is easy to use and to navigate, and allows you to:

* search for books that have been recommended
*make you own recommendations of books your children and yourself have enjoyed
*give a ‘like’ for recommendations
*add friends or follow parents whose recommendations you like

Kinfo is currently only available on iOS for Apple but an android version is in development. You can download it from here .
