(Hodder Children’s Books)
Hurrah! One of my favourite picture books ever has been reissued after being out-of-print for many years. Little Bo Peep’s Library Book, now renamed Little Bo Peep’s Troublesome Sheep (why the change of title I wonder?) has been relaunched by Hodder Children’s Books in a new bigger format (my old hardback – a signed copy – is held on top of a shelf only to be touched by my children under strict supervision!)
Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep and goes to the library to see if she can find a book that might help her retrieve her flock. Will she find what she is looking for? And more importantly, will she find her sheep?
How can one not love this book? It sends a great positive message about reading and libraries. It draws other characters from traditional tales into the story, which offers lots to talk about with your little audience. It is funny (Can Little Bo Peep seriously not see the sheep following her?) And of course, there are books inside the book, à la Jolly Postman; it is so lovely done because when you find the books inside the page, it is like you are taking them off the shelf at the library. Wonderful stuff.
