Jane Ray
(Walker Books)

Everyone knows the story of Cinderella and her misfortunes. This new pop-up edition is definitely one to treasure.

In Cinderella, Jane Ray uses the technique of layered cut papers to create six three-dimensional theatrical scenes, and the result is striking. Her elegant drawings convey the right atmosphere, and the amount of detail in each scene is quite astonishing. The depth in each fold-out double page to create the theatre scene allows for many intricate details to be uncovered, and revealed. In fact the reader really needs to look at each scene from different angles to be able to discover them all. The scene where Cinderella is running away from the palace through the gardens is particularly stunning. The text can be found on side panels, allowing the artwork to be uninterrupted. This really is a beautiful book.

In the same collection and by the same author/illustrator:

Both will make splendid gifts. Due to the delicate nature of the fold-out pages, these two books are best suited for children aged 3 and over.
